A Spirit-Filled Summer: What God Is Doing Right Now

Brick church in Milwaukee with red doors, summer flowers, and green lawn

Dear Church Family,

As June arrives, something special is happening. You can feel it. The sanctuary shines bright with Pentecost red. The Spirit of God is moving among us—quietly, boldly, powerfully.

This is a Spirit-filled summer. And that means God isn’t done. He’s doing something new. Right now. Right here. In us.

Pentecost Sunday: The Church Is Alive

Pentecost Sunday is a time to remember how the Church began—with wind, fire, and the Holy Spirit.

It wasn’t quiet or neat. It was full of power and change. And it reminds us: the Church is not a museum for memories. It’s a living, breathing movement.

Even today, the Holy Spirit is stirring. He gives new dreams to old hearts. He brings fresh fire to tired hands.

Let’s not just look back on what God did. Let’s ask:
What is God doing now?

Honoring Fathers: Faith That Stands Firm

This month, we celebrate Father’s Day. We give thanks for dads, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and spiritual leaders who shape our lives.

They may not always speak loudly. But their steady love tells the story of our Heavenly Father.
A Father who walks beside us in joy and pain. A Father who never leaves.

Their faith reminds us:
God’s love is strong. God’s promises stand. And God’s Spirit leads.

Remembering Juneteenth: Freedom Is God’s Dream

Juneteenth is more than history. It’s a holy reminder.

God wants freedom for all His children.

On this day, we remember when freedom was declared for enslaved people in Texas in 1865. But we also remember that true freedom—heart freedom—comes from the Spirit.

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)

This summer, let’s walk toward the truth. Toward healing. Toward unity.
That’s what the Holy Spirit leads us to do.

Summer Begins: A Season of Light and Growth

The first day of summer brings longer days and warm sunshine. Flowers bloom. Kids play. Everything feels full of life.

This season reminds us that growth is possible. Even in us. Even now.

We’re not stuck in the past. We’re not too old or too tired or too small.
God is still planting seeds. And His Spirit is watering them.

So we ask:
What new thing is God planting in our church this season?

What God Is Doing at First Church

Here at First Church, we carry years of memory. We honor the past. But we also carry the Spirit of Pentecost.

That Spirit breathes new life.
He gives new dreams to those who think they’ve dreamed their last.
He opens new doors for those who thought they’d reached the end.

This summer, we’re learning to listen again. To look forward again. To step into what God is doing now.

Let’s Listen for the Spirit

So here’s the invitation.

  • Try something new.
  • Welcome someone new.
  • Dream something new.

Do it for the Gospel. Do it for the glory of Christ. Do it because God is not finished with us.

The story of this church is still being written.
And the Author?
He’s good.

With hope in Christ,
Pastor Temo Rios
